world chiropractic day

World Chiropractic Day is celebrated on September 18. Daniel David Palmer performed the first spinal adjustment on that day in 1895.

El September 18 of each year is celebrated world chiropractic day, with the aim of offering valuable information to the population regarding this important discipline. The reason that this date is commemorated is because it is considered that Daniel David Palmer performed the first spinal adjustment on September 18, 1895, which gave rise to what we know today as chiropractic.

Who was Daniel David Palmer?

Canadian-born Daniel David Palmer was the first chiropractor and is considered the father of chiropractic. He was born in Ontario, but immigrated to the United States in 1865. He was an enthusiast of alternative medicine and other therapies such as magnetic healing.

Palmer believed in the natural healing power of the human organism, which in this case was transmitted through the nervous system. He believed that certain pathologies could have their origin in the fact that the affected organ did not receive its normal nervous supply. He called this effect "spinal misalignment" or subluxation. He considered that the technique known as chiropractic was a form of realignment to restore the correct nerve flow to the affected organ.

In 1897, he founded the Palmer School and Cure in Davenport, later renamed Palmer College of Chiropractic, the first center in the world dedicated to the teaching of this technique. He left school for his son BJ Palmer and moved to the West Coast where he founded chiropractic schools in three states: Oklahoma, California and Oregon.

This practice and dedication of Palmer, led to establish in his honor the world chiropractic day.
